Monrovia Mayor MaryAnn Lutz and City Council members recognized the 2014 Book Mark Contest winners at the July 15 meeting. While not all of the winners were able to be present, Council Members offered congratulations and thanks for providing such wonderful artwork. Certificates have been forwarded to absent recipients. Also pictured is Karen Hollinhurst, president of FOMPL. Thanks to Librarian Annette Simpson for her skill in organizing and actually conducting the contest.

While electronic books and e-readers are becoming increasingly popular, there’s still something very special about an old fashioned book. Paperback Book Day celebrates the look, texture, and experience of reading a paperback classic. We'll be celebrating in the Friends Store.
Are you old enough to remember "Roots" staring LeVar Burton? Well, he's still around and doing good! The founder and ramrod of "Readig Rainbow." The Sunday, July 6, 2014 issue of Parade magazine bundled with the Los Angeles Times highlighted his reading revolution. As the host of PBS Reading Rainbow for 26 years, LeVar introduced millions of kids to the magic of a good story. He is now working to make it even bigger and better in digital space.
